Outsiders Pizza, Chronicling the Rise and Fall of the Detroit Empire

I went with their Detroit style crust since I already wrote about Chicago style. I like the idea of Detroit style, just like I enjoy variations of it (pan pizza from the Hut), but in reality: a frozen pizza just retains too much moisture for a crust like this. It gets soggy the minute it hits your plate, if not before. The crisp edge is what defines a good Detroit Style, and it’s lost when you start eating one of these pizzas. After the first bite I was ready to give this a 9, but that rating fell pretty quickly. There weren’t enough pepperoni’s on this thing, you could only get 2 or so per square. While they were good, you really need toppings to make up for the bland crust and mediocre sauce here.

Pros:

  • Good Detroit Style crust, if that’s your weird fetish.

Cons:

  • Severe lack of toppings. (-1 point)

  • Aggressively mediocre sauce. (-1 point)

  • Crust is ok, gets soggy too easily. (-1 point)

7/10
